Mr. Gregory Barbeneaux Obituary

Gregory Jude Barbeneaux was born to the late Joseph and Charlie Mae Henry Barbeneaux on October 24,
1959 in Opelousas Louisiana. He departed this life on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at his home with his beautiful
wife, Denise Barbeneaux by his side.
Gregory, affectionately known as “Bo Peep”, accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was
christened in the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, of Louisiana. At the age of 3, his parents moved their family to
Houston, Texas where he became a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church, where he made his First Holy
Communion, Confirmation and was a member of the usher board. Greg joined Disciples Christian Fellowship
of Rosharon Texas in 2012 where he quickly became a part of Bible Study, Sunday School, and ultimately
became head of the Men’s Ministry. He grew exponentially in his spiritual journey under the leadership of his
Pastor, Spiritual Teacher and friend, Pastor Cedric L. Young.
Greg attended Lockhart and Peck Elementary schools, Cullen Jr. High School and Jack Yates Sr. High School.
Throughout school, he was a very energetic, intelligent and inquisitive student. He participated in many
organizations in school including as a drummer in the Cullen Bobcats Marching Band and as lead snare
drummer in the Mighty Lions Marching band at Jack Yates and was a member of the National Honor Society.
He was a very astute student, graduating from high school in 1978 with high honors. Greg attended Texas
Southern University from 1978 to 1981. In his spare time, he loved playing the drums and joined Calvin
Murphy’s - Marching Thunder Twirling, Flag, Dance and Drum Corp as a lead drummer and was a highly skilled
and committed member of the organization for over 30 years.
Greg’s dream career began when he started working at Apartment Data Services in January 2002. His co-
workers and friends will forever cherish his life, hard work and dedication. He was a role model and mentor to
many in the industry and in his community.
Greg had a passion for life and living and that passion became contagious to everyone who knew him. He was
equally passionate about his love and adoration for his “Sweetie”, Denise. He enjoyed spending quality time
with family and friends and he never missed an opportunity to savor the flavor of a large and well-prepared
meal. Most importantly, Greg wanted everyone around him to know the love he had for Jesus Christ and he
wanted them to experience that love for themselves.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two older brothers, Eugene Barbeneaux and Don Barbeneaux.
Greg leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Denise Mayon Barbeneaux, daughter, Chelsie Stewart
(Torri), grandson Harlen Reaux Stewart; three brothers; Phillip Barbeneaux (Val) and Tommy Lastrapes (Pearl)
of Houston, TX; Charles Barbeneaux of Manteca, CA; three sisters; Carlos Dacus of Houston, TX, Sister Rosalind
