John was baptized into the church of Christ in 2006 under the leadership of Timothy Daniels at the Trinity Gardens Church of Christ. There he was part of the men's ministry, apart of the usher board and a faithful member until he became ill.

John is preceded in death by his parents (Hazel and Aaron Malveaux), two sisters(Doretha Franklin and Rose Smith), and four brothers (Roger Payne, Aaron Malveaux Jr., Earl Malveaux, Giruard Malveaux).
