Pastor Robert Drake Obituary

Robert Elton Drake was born May 7, 1950, the son of the late Claude Drake and Ada Malone.  He was raised in the Fifth Ward section of Houston, Texas and graduated from E. O. Smith Jr. and San Jacinto Sr. High Schools.

On May 9, 1970 he was united in marriage to Rosie “Chambers” Drake. To this union, four children were born: Robert II (Tivina), Alexeus (Candica), Christwill (Nicoyla) and daughter Christil Joy all of Houston, Texas.

He served in the U. S. Army from June 1970 through June 1973, attaining the rank of Sergeant E-5. The Lord directed circumstances that kept him from being sent to the Vietnam Conflict, for God had already planned out his steps for the work in the kingdom of God.

On April 26, 1977, he received Jesus Christ in his heart, as Lord and Savior, he became a member of Greater St. Matthew B. C. under the leadership of Pastor Augusta Booker in Houston.  He was licensed and ordained to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in 1979. After meeting Jesus, he burned with the desire to help people to know the Lord and he invested the rest of his life to that end.

In 1998 the Lord Jesus called him to serve in the pastoral ministry of the N.B.S.M., Rivers of Water Church. His love for the Lord Jesus Christ and focuses on world missions translates into the infectious vitality and heartbeat of this church fellowship. Christian education being a priority, second only to the preaching of the Gospel led him and the church on mission trips across the world. Setting up Sunday School outreach and Bible distribution from the mountains of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to the washed-out areas of San Leon, Nicaragua, to the islands of Aruba (WI), Nevis (WI), St. Croix, USVI, and to the homeland of Uganda, East Africa.  He also preached the message of hope found in the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ throughout Texas, Louisiana and even to the busy streets of New York.

He faithfully led, fed and loved the Rivers of Water church, the congregation God called him to shepherd until his departure.

He was blessed with eight siblings, three of which preceded him in death: Melton Cormier, Claude Ray, and Gerald.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving faithful wife of 49 years, his 4 children, Seven grandchildren: Robert Drake III, Roman, Avri, Edward, Xavier, Christian , Ahvion; A daughter-in-law Ashley Drake; his surviving siblings: Glen Michael, Marcus (Laura), Shirley Mae, Ezell, Tuana (Leon); Rivers of Water Church Family, The Brethren (Pastor George Burrell and Bro. Andrew Jones), and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
