Mr. Maceo Byron Griggs affectionately known as Byron, was born on July 20,1946, in Detroit, Michigan to Maceo and Lois Griggs. Bryon was the last of four children. He attended the Detroit public schools and later Lewis Business College in Detroit, where he graduated with a certificate in accounting. Byron accepted Christ as his Lord and Savoir and was baptized at an early age.
Byron was united in marriage with Claudia Lorraine Ragland on December 6th, 1969. In 1981 they relocated to Houston, TX. Byron joined Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church in 1988. In1991, at the age of five, April was adopted into their union. He started the Lilly Grove Drug Ministry, and later became a deacon in 1996.
Byron worked at the Holiday Inn as an auditor when first moving to Texas and later worked for John Lucas athlete aftercare. He later retired from Memorial Hermann PaRC where he was a Licenced Chemical Dependency Counselor.
Byron made his transition peacefully at home on November 24th, 2020 to be with the Lord. Proceeding him in death was his parents, Maceo and Lois Griggs. His brother Nathaniel Griggs, his sisters Barbara Brown and Marlene Griggs.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted Wife Claudia of 51 years, their daughter April and son in law Reggie Jackson, two grandchildren Akeem and Amari, three sister in laws, Kathy Lewis (Houston), Carol Puryear and Shelia Ragland (Detroit). A very special cousin Dorthy Casey (94), and cousin Carol Williams. His best friend Clarence White and Diane, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
