“If I can help somebody as I pass along,
If I can cheer somebody with a word or a song,
If I can show somebody he is travelling wrong,
Then my living shall not be in vain.”
On May 23, 2026, Trey transitioned from earthly labor into eternal rest at the age of 55 in Houston, Texas.
Born on March 9, 1971, in Bay City, Texas, to Velva J. Gordon and Alexander Sheppard, Jr., Trey was a blessing from the very beginning. He possessed a quiet strength, a gentle heart, and a humble spirit that touched everyone who crossed his path. His life was a reflection of kindness, compassion, and unwavering faith in God.
Trey graduated from Willowridge High School in 1989 and continued his educational journey at Jarvis Christian College. While education was important to him, his greatest passion was serving God and serving others.
At an early age, Trey accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized. He faithfully served at New Faith Church, where he participated in the children’s choir, youth choir, and numerous ministries. As his faith matured, so did his calling. Trey answered God’s call to ministry and faithfully served as a Minister before being elevated to the office of Archbishop. He believed that ministry was not simply what happened inside the church walls—it was demonstrated through love, service, encouragement, and living a life that honored God.
Trey’s greatest gift was his presence. He never sought attention, yet his calm spirit commanded respect. He was known for his gentle nature, his willingness to help, and his ability to make others feel valued. Whether family members needed support, guidance, or simply someone to show up, Trey was there. Even on days when he wasn’t feeling his best, he found strength to encourage others.
Family was one of the greatest joys of Trey’s life. He cherished every opportunity to support and celebrate his loved ones. He was especially proud of his younger cousins and took delight in attending their events, accomplishments, and milestones. His love was consistent, genuine, and unconditional.
Trey leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, humility, and service. He is lovingly survived by his mother, Velva J. Gordon; his special friend, Teresa Williams; his siblings, Jonathan Sheppard and Erica Sheppard; and a loving circle of family including Sherilyn Price (James), Marilyn Bonner, Daryl Gordon, Tangela Sells (Willie), Terrill Price, Terroniqua Price, Alaisha Sells, Xavier Sells, Torrey Bonner, Torrace Bonner, Audria Bryant, Manchie Sheppard, Marshandria Smith, and Marshall Smith, along with countless extended family members, church family, friends, colleagues, and spiritual sons and daughters, and the DaVita Kidney Dialysis Center staff whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
He was welcomed into eternity by those who preceded him in death: his father, Alexander Sheppard, Jr.; his paternal grandparents, Alexander, Sr. and Blanchetta Sheppard; his maternal grandparents, Oza, Sr. and Ethel Mae Gordon; his uncle, Oza Gordon, Jr.; his aunt, Genetta Sheppard-Smith; his nephew, Haybert Sheppard and his cousin, Monterrey Bonner.
Although we grieve his absence, we rejoice in the life he lived and the legacy he leaves behind. Trey taught us that greatness is found in humility, that service is an expression of love, and that faith can carry us through every season of life. His influence will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
