Reflection of Life
David M. Wade, Sr was born on July 17, 1951, to Clayton and O’Letha Wade in
Nacogdoches, TX. He grew up in Corsicana, TX, where he attended elementary and junior
high school, and later moved to Fairfield, TX. David attended Dogan High School and was
the Class Vice President and Student Council Vice President. He was an avid runner and
excelled at running track and playing basketball for his high school team. After graduating
from high school, David attended James Connaly Technical Institute in Waco, TX.
After college, David relocated to the Houston area. There he worked for several companies
before obtaining a position with Schlumberger Oil & Gas Company. A quick study with
unparalleled recollection- David received several promotions and eventually became
Schlumberger’s first black General Operator.
He married the love of his life, Lettie Frazier, on December 22, 1973. David and Lettie
attended Palm Center Church of Christ and usually were the first to arrive every Sunday to
open the church doors. He was an active member of the church; David enjoyed teaching
bible study, reading the church announcements, and being the church’s bookkeeper.
David also enjoyed spending time with his family especially fishing (his 2nd love), traveling, or
simply relaxing at home. He was a die-hard fan of Star Trek movies. Amazingly he would
watch and rewatch every episode as if it were his first, and then enthusiastically begin telling
you what was about to occur in the next scene. He was also fascinated with all types of
animals, mammals, and insects and could easily give a school lesson on the subject or hold a
very long conversation on the topic if you dare to ask. He loved a home-cooked meal, but his
favorite place to eat after morning worship was Golden Corral.
David is preceded in death by his parents (Clayton and O’Letha Wade), four siblings (James,
Charles, Clayton, and Roy), daughter (Tira), and three grandchildren (Laquita, Taiesha, and
Trenten).
David leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his memory: A loving and devoted wife
of over 51 years, Lettie Wade; children: Paula Turner (Thomas), Clarence Watkins III (Lisa),
Curtis Watkins (Christine), Cedell Watkins (Taamika), David M. Wade, Jr (Kaye), and David
Edward Wade (Valen). He also leaves his siblings to cherish his memory: Eula Henry, Lois
Roberts, Mattie Gaston (Melvin), Amanda Coleman, Billy Wade, Eddie Arnold Washington
(Etta), and Joyce Daniels (Ralph), and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces,
and nephews.
