Mr. Donnell Walker Obituary

Donnell’s Story

Born to John L. and Willie Cleo Walker on May 14, 1965 in Houston, Texas Donnell Walker entered the world surrounded by love along with his twin, Ronnell.  He was raised and nurtured in a Christian home.  Donnell accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at 12 years old at Calvary Hill Baptist Church in Houston, Texas under the leadership of his uncle Rev. B.R. Williams.

Donnell was a proud product of the Houston Independent School District where he matriculated through J. R. Reynolds Elementary, Lanier Middle School, and The Evan E. Worthing High School as a graduate of the Class of 1984.   After graduation Donnell furthered his education at Houston Community College where he earned his Associates Degree in Fashion Design.  This achievement afforded him the opportunity to continue chasing his dream of becoming a world-renowned fashion designer at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Donnell completed his degree and worked in the fashion industry in New York for several years as a designer and stylist. Donnell returned home to Houston and continued to work in fashion, while also serving God as an ordained minister. Not only could he pontificate the Word of God, but Donnell was blessed with a prolific vocal gift, which he used to magnify God in his church choir, with Donald Ray Edwards and the Heavenly Voices, and as a member of Kathy Taylor and the Choraleers. Over the past decade Donnell committed his life to sharing with others the many triumphs and unconceivable blessings God had bestowed upon.  He served tirelessly in his church and community until his health began to fail him. Donnell’s unwavering gratefulness shall forever serve as a guide of how to remain faithful and vigilant until the Lord calls you home.

Donnell peacefully transitioned from this earthly life on Thursday, January 16, 2025 while surrounded by family and loved ones.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Willie Cleo Walker; father, John L. Walker; sister Rosemary, brother Nelson Walker, and niece Shawnesia Collins. Donnell will be lovingly remembered by his sister Janice Walker- Simmons (Richard), brother Ronnell Walker; Guardian Missionary Judy Owens, God Sisters, Ingrid Jefferson-Thomas (Wendell) Shanda Walker (Ronald) and Tesha Owens; sister-in-law Beverly Walker, nieces Sonya Collins (Eric), LaKeisha Harris (Dexter); nephew Nelson Walker Jr; aunt Byrdell Duren; uncle Rev.
