Gerald Asbury, Sr., of Houston, Texas, passed away on April 1, 2026. He was born on June 15, 1951, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Willie Asbury, Jr., and Pearl Milton-Asbury. During his teenage years, his family entered a new season, and his mother later married L.B. Montgomery, who lovingly stepped into Gerald’s life and raised him as his own.
Gerald spent his early years in Louisiana and began his professional path as a chef before transitioning into truck driving, where he worked for many dedicated years with Yellow Freight and was an active member of the Teamsters Union. After retirement, he continued serving others through First Class Transportation and Houston Christian University, where he formed lasting relationships with staff and athletes.
He had a deep passion for ships, trains, and model airplanes, especially the Monocoupe, and was known for his humor, craftsmanship, and quiet strength.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Gerleane Asbury; his children, Gerald “Termaine” Asbury, Nicholas “Nick” Asbury, and bonus daughter Autralena Newhouse (Andre); ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; his siblings, Debora Asbury Scott (Raymond), Brenda Harrison, Pat Stewart, and Claudette Dunkin; his uncle, James Montgomery (Yvonne); his aunts, Elizabeth Montgomery, Patsy Montgomery, and Cynthia Robinson; his sister in law, Tambra Williams; his goddaughter, Hollye Williams; and close friends Anella Hall and Sylvester Jackson, along with a host of family and friends, many of whom are in Baton Rouge and Houston, each holding a special place in his life. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
