Mr. Gordon Patterson Obituary

The Life and Legacy
Gordon Lennox Patterson was born on October 12, 1949, on the Caribbean Island of Grenada to Kenneth and Ruby Paterson. He was the first boy born in the family and the second of fourteen children.

The family lived on the Mt Nesbit Estate in St. John’s where his father was the estate manager. After a few years the family moved back to their home in Perdmontemps, St David’s. Dad was an expert at driving the banana trucks, bookkeeping for his father, climbing coconut trees and “pulling net” to get fish. He attended school at St. Dominic’s R.C. School in St. David’s, and St. John’s Anglican School when the family moved to Mt Nesbit estate in St. John’s. He graduated from the GBSS Technical Institute and began teaching at St. John’s Anglican School. Due to his talents and superior expertise, he was the motivation for the opening of the woodwork department and ultimately became the department head. Always the constant leader he was the first to leave Grenada for Canada in July of 1974. A few weeks later he came to the United States to join his friends Jeffers Bhola and the Douglas Family.

In 1976, he learned through a close friend of the oil boom and the many job opportunities here in Houston and so he made his way to the great state of Texas. He often joked he came with a small suitcase and only $20 to his name. Seeing the endless opportunities, he made it a point to inform his friends in Brooklyn and encouraged them to “get out of the Big Apple” and come to Texas to live the American Dream.

Due to his training and his vast electrical knowledge which he gained in Grenada, Gordon’s electrical career began with an apprenticeship with Brown and Root in 1976. To further his electrical education, he attended Lee College in Baytown where he received his Journeyman and Instrumental technician’s license.

He worked with many military bases and electrical companies. His travels brought him to many beautiful states and continents. He was fortunate to experience working offshore on the oil rigs, in the freezing cold of Alaska, the hot and humid grasslands of Kenya, and the danger fields of Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan.

As we celebrate Gordon’s life, we are happy with the good times and memories we once shared. Left to carry on his legacy are Zodak, Andrae, Marcus Keisha and spouse Jonathan, & Gemma .
