Mr. Kip Jones Obituary

Kip O. Jones was born on January 2, 1963, in Georgetown, Texas, to Ozella Jean Jones and Steve Garrett, he was a man of warmth and quiet strength. He grew up in Tyler, proudly graduating from John Tyler High School in 1981. That same summer, he met the love of his life, Robbie. Together, they embarked on a beautiful journey of love and partnership spanning over four decades.
A proud University of Houston Cougar, he balanced his studies with playing football, graduating in 1985 with a degree in Industrial Technology and Business Administration. His strong work ethic led him from early roles at Pepsi, Alamo Freight, and Roadway, to a distinguished career at the Port of Houston, where he retired as a respected Supervisor in 2014. In 2013, he found his spiritual home as a faithful member of Boynton United Methodist Church.
He loved the simple pleasures of life: good music, beach trips, traveling, and live concerts. His love for football continued long after college as a dedicated Pop Warner little league coach. On quiet mornings, he could always be found with a hot cup of coffee and a history book in hand.
His rich legacy of love will be forever cherished by his beloved wife, Robbie Jones, and his children, Adrienne, Orlando, Justin, and Britney Hicks. He was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren: Di'Jornaye Hicks, Marcus Williams Jr., Orlando Hicks Jr., Zechariah Ashley, Natalie Hicks, Phoenix Hicks, Genesis Gilmore, Proctor Hicks, Barron Hicks, and Austin Hicks; and a doting great-grandfather to Dorian Zapata.
He is also survived by his father, Steve Garrett; his sister, Detra Jones; his niece, Felisha Jones; and a host of extended family, dear friends, former teammates, and his church community. He was reunited in peace with his beloved mother, Ozella Jean Jones, who preceded him in death.
