Lawrence Jeffrey “Jeff” Freeman, 77, of Sugar Land, Texas, entered into eternal rest on December 15, 2025. Born on January 14, 1948, in Robeson County, North Carolina, Jeff lived a life marked by courage, devotion, and unwavering love for his family and his country.
He was the son of the late Lawrence Carroll Freeman and Virginia Bracey Freeman. Jeff was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Virginia Carroll Freeman; his sister, Judy Carol Freeman; and his brother, Joe Bracey Freeman, who passed away within hours of Jeff on the same day.
Jeff is survived by his devoted wife, Chong Suk Freeman; his son, Lawrence Carroll Freeman of Sugar Land, Texas; his sisters, Peggy Freeman Barrington and Linda Freeman Miller, both of Lumberton, North Carolina; his cherished grandson, Enoch Masaya Freeman; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him deeply and were loved by him in return.
A proud American, Jeff became a Lumberton, North Carolina police officer and later enlisted in the United States Army in 1968. He became airborne qualified and served as a military police officer, rising to the rank of sergeant. In 1976, he was hand‑selected to serve as an Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetery at Fort Myer, Virginia—an honor he carried with great pride. He was later stationed in South Korea as a traffic accident investigator, where he met the love of his life, Chong Suk. They married in 1977 and began a lifelong partnership built on devotion, resilience, and adventure.
After leaving military life, Jeff and Chong Suk moved to Houston, Texas in the early 1980s with just $800 and a shared determination to build a new future. Jeff began working at the flagship Marriott Hotel at what was then Houston Intercontinental Airport, serving first as head of security and later as night manager. It was during this time that he envisioned creating his own private security agency—a dream he brought to life with the founding of Freeman International Security, and later Datapol. For more than two decades, Jeff provided security services to Hollywood figures, local celebrities, and even former U.S. President George H. W. Bush. In 2016, he proudly passed his business on to his son and entered a well‑earned retirement.
Jeff was a man of intellect and curiosity, a lover of history and literature, and a gifted writer. He found joy in simple pleasures—browsing books at Barnes & Noble, sharing coffee with his family, and picking out books and toys for his grandson. Above all, Jeff placed his faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, his personal Savior, and lived his life anchored in that faith.
In his final days, Jeff was lovingly cared for and supported by his daughter‑in‑law, Michiko Freeman, whose daily visits brought him comfort, laughter, and companionship. They shared stories, memories, and quiet moments hand‑in‑hand. Jeff’s final words were spoken to Michiko—“I love you.” Those words, tender and full of gratitude, will forever remain a cherished part of his family’s memory.
The family would like to especially thank the Veterans Administration (VA) for more than 40 years of dedicated care and service to Jeff. Their commitment, support, and medical guidance played an instrumental role in extending his life, and for that, his family is deeply and forever grateful.
