Melvin was born the eldest child on September 27, 1969, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Jesse J. Jack and Doris A. Little. He grew up in Benton, Louisiana, and played varsity basketball, varsity football, plus the trumpet before graduating from Benton High School in May 1987.
After graduating, Melvin enlisted into the U.S. Armed Forces and proudly served in the Army National Guard primarily as a petroleum supply specialist and cannon crewmember. He earned several awards and letters of commendation particularly for his combat and overseas service before retiring in 1994.
Over the course of Melvin’s lifetime, he acquired many facets of knowledge and skills. He was especially passionate about entrepreneurship, real estate investing, and operating commercial motor vehicles.
Melvin was a dedicated and loyal commercial motor vehicle operator at Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston. With over six years of employment, he was known for going the extra mile for whomever he encountered or worked with and was often recognized for it. Melvin added value to the VA Medical Center beyond what was required of him. He loved the profession and the people he served.
Most of all, Melvin loved his family and friends. He was a loving, loyal, and respectable husband, father, son, brother, and friend. His compassion, kindness, outgoing personality, sense of humor, and wisdom will forever be a blessing.
Above all, Melvin loved God. He honored the Lord and had unwavering faith.
