Mrs. Belzora Slider

Belzora Marie Lockett Slider was born on November 17, 1939, in Jasper, Texas, to Frank Lockett, Sr. and Sophronia (S.E.) Rhone Lockett Diggles. She spent her early childhood in Kirbyville, Texas before later moving to Dallas, where she was raised in a loving family that included her mother and stepfather, Printess Diggles, whom she affectionately called "Daddy Printess." At an early age, Belzora was baptized at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, under the leadership of Rev. E.C. Estelle. There, she faithfully participated in the young people's choir and began developing the quiet strength and deep-rooted faith.
Belzora attended Wheatley Elementary School in Dallas and later graduated from James Madison High School in 1958. She continued her education at The University of Texas at Austin, where she was among the inaugural Black students on campus. During her time at the university, she was initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, through the Delta Xi Chapter as a member of its first intake line. Belzora went on to attend Texas Southern University.
On June 25, 1960, Belzora was united in marriage to L.G. Slider, Jr. Together they built a life rooted in faith, love, and family. To this union three children were born: Sandra Yvonne, Timothy Wayne, and Michael Keith. In 1962, Belzora and L.G. made Houston, Texas their home, where they raised their family and where she remained for the rest of her life.
Belzora worked in a number of secretarial and executive assistant roles throughout her career, including positions with Rice University, the Internal Revenue Service, Texas Instruments, Prairie View College of Nursing, and Antioch Baptist Church. Her final place of employment was with Dillard's, where she worked as a sales associate. She truly enjoyed her time there, and her family certainly reaped the benefits of her eye for a good deal, often being outfitted in newly marked-down finds she happily brought home.
Yet among all the roles she held, none meant more to her than those of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was deeply devoted to her family and found joy in caring for them in ways both large and small.
Belzora treasured family—especially the company of her aunts, uncles, and cousins, whose presence brought her great joy throughout her life. Her favorite time of year was the holiday season, when her home became the heart of family gatherings, cherished traditions, and the memorable meals she lovingly prepared. She loved cooking for her family and took pride in making those occasions special, even long after the house had grown quieter and the children had grown up.
Belzora spent many happy years bowling in leagues alongside her husband and children, creating memories that would become cherished family stories. She also loved gardening with her husband. Belzora played a pivotal role in helping rear her grandchildren and, later, her great-grandchildren as well. In her earlier years, that love was expressed through hands-on care, guidance, and steady presence. In later years, as attending every event became more difficult, she remained just as invested-delighting in hearing about their accomplishments, watching videos, looking through pictures, and celebrating each milestone from home with the same pride and love.
Belzora was also a woman who appreciated the comfort of home and the peace of her own company. She embraced her quiet, introverted nature and found joy in the simple routines she loved most: drinking coffee, watching movies, enjoying science fiction, keeping up with the news, and replaying music videos that brought her comfort and entertainment. Home was her sanctuary, and within it she created a life filled with warmth, familiarity, and love.
On June 18, 2026, Belzora peacefully transitioned from this life, leaving behind a legacy of love, grace, strength, and devotion to family. Belzora Lockett Slider leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Sandra (Charles) Beridon; sons, Timothy (Ollie) Slider and Michael (Tamika) Slider; grandchildren, Monica (Marques) Roberts, Jason Walker, Leslie Slider, Klarc Slider, and Garrett Slider; great-grandchildren, Jaylon, Samaya, London, Jackson, Tatum, Emory, Brooklyn, and Lennox; sisters-in-law, Bessie (Paul) Moody, Cathy Lockett, and Vallie Adams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, L.G. Slider, Jr.; her father, Frank Lockett, Sr.; her mother, S.E. Diggles; her stepfather, Printess Diggles; her stepmother, Vera Lockett; and her brothers, Frank Lockett Jr., Johnny-Lee Adams, and Brad Lockett.
