Delia Lazette Williams
Affectionally, known as “Zay” by those that knew her, was born on
August 23, 1962, to the late Uries Sean Anderson Sr. and Mary Ann Williams.
Delia attended Houston Independent School districts: Bastian Elementary, Attucks Middle, and
graduated from Jesse Jones High School.
Delia confessed her faith and was baptized at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church which
would later be called Southeast Community Church in Houston, Texas under Pastor Sherman
West. Delia served in various ministries at Southeast during her over 50 years of membership
there. Delia later united with the Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, Texas
where Terry K. Anderson is the pastor. Although Delia could no longer attend Lilly Grove in
person due to health, she would be a faithful weekly online member and consume Pastor
Anderson’s sermons on YouTube daily for encouragement.
Delia spent many years serving others as a Shift Leader at Wendy’s Old-Fashioned Hamburgers.
Discerning that there was more in store for her in service to others, Delia would pray asking God
to show her where to go. One day a family friend approached her about a new opportunity within
the Houston Independent School District and she accepted the job as a Food Service Attendant at
Kelso Elementary on Houston’s South Side. After joining Kelso and seeing firsthand the
disparities of the children living in the community surrounding the school, Delia felt that her
position at Kelso was not just a job but a calling to ensure that every kid that came in her line had
more than enough food to eat even to the point of allowing the children to come through the line
twice. Delia always said she could not allow a child to go hungry when she knew that the only
meal some of the children would receive that day would come from her. Delia retired from the
school district in 2021.
Delia was preceded in death by her father Uries S Anderson Sr.
