Mrs. Dorothy Steadman Obituary

On June 3rd, 2024 after 96 remarkable years she took her last breath at home surrounded by family in Houston, Texas. She came into this world Monday, December 12th in the year 1927 to her loving parents Marcel Valentine (Lee) and Benjamin Henry Green. She was born in Trinidad and Tobago, and she carried the warmth of the islands wherever she went. She is survived by her two sisters Annmarie Adelaide George and Rosemarie Esme (Winfred). She was preceded in death by her brothers Cyril, Fitzroy (Pearle), Keneth (Thelma), Carlton (Joycelyn), Glenroy (Sylvia), and Arnim (Pellum), Merle; as well as her sister Stephanie Catherine.

She was the devoted wife to the late Mervyn Steadman and they lived in San Fernando, Trinidad on Rushworth Street. They gave birth to five children. She is survived by Ruby Fleming (Stepdaughter) Christopher Peter Seldwyn Steadman (Rhonda), David Darron Steadman, and Karen Nina Steadman. She is preceded in death by her children Karlene Maureena Valerie Steadman and Kelvin Michael Steadman. Her wisdom and kindness touched the lives of her seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory. Dorothy was the beloved sister-in-law of Steven Steadman, Marjorie Edmund, Linda Steadman, Joyce Aaron (Raymond) and Barbara Boucard.

Throughout her life she held several passions, her greatest or most prized were her family which sweetly intertwined with her next which was cooking, her culinary skills was legendary. Especially when it came to Caribbean cuisine like roti and curry, callaloo and cabbage and rice. Whether it was the aroma of curry filling the kitchen or the sizzle of frying plantains, her cooking was a celebration of her heritage, she also had a knack for ceramics. She was able to craft the most beautiful pieces, from vases to intricately designed decor. Her talent also extended to sewing, macrame and crafting delicate and unique paper as well as nylon flowers, every piece of those flowers was a testament of her creativity and patience.

As we reflect on her life, let us reflect on the true meaning of love, courage, and perseverance. Her presence may no longer be with us, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her.

Rest peacefully, Dorothy. You will be dearly missed and always lovingly remembered.
