Mrs. Dorthene Brantley Obituary

Dorthene Brantley was brought into this life on October 14, 1934 and gifted her to great parents, Mother, Anna Doris Glaspie, and Father, Clinton Glaspie. She was the 2nd oldest of 4 girls, and one brother who preceded her in death as an infant as did her parents, and her first born child, Anna Brantley in infancy. A native of Carthage, Texas, Dorthene moved to Tyler, Texas, then, to Houston in 1941.

Dorthene’s 85+ years on this earth were filled with the heart of a servant. She was baptized, and born again at Damascus Baptist Church in 6th ward. She joined Little Union Baptist Church in Settegast. Her work life consisted of being a United States Postal Worker from which she retired after 19 years. She attended Harper Elementary School and was a graduate of Wheatley High School.

Among the many ways she contributed to the Kingdom of God was through Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member for 63 years. She served on the Pastor’s Aide, sung in the mass choir for 48 years, and in the Woman’s Chorus, on the Bereavement Committee, kitchen service, mission, and performed in the Special group. In addition, she attended Sunday school. She was also involved in her community as a member of the Carver Estates Civic Club; she was a pillar in the community.

Dorthene Brantley departed this life on June 30, 2020 and is now in the arms of God whom she served so faithfully. She would go out of her way to help anyone and her smile was so bright that it could light up a room. She was united in marriage to Hubert Brantley in February of 1957, 63 years.

She leaves to mourn in her passing: her husband, Hubert Brantley; Daughters, Jacqueline Williams, Rosie Brantley, Karen Brantley, and Derdra Brantley, Sisters; Mable Perry, Classie Hadnot and Bobbie McDaniel; Grandchildren, Thomas Kennedy, Rashad Kennedy, Calvin Brantley, Candice Brantley, Christopher Brantley, Andre Daniels, Sheronda Daniels, Shenea Daniels; Great-Grandchildren, LaTravia Kennedy, Andrenique Daniels, Symotrice Daniels, Jalen Daniels, Dre'Don Daniels, Shekera Daniels, Sherrod Daniels, Shemar Charles, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
