On July 24, 1947, in Houston, Texas, God blessed Ernest and Dorothy Nelloms with a beautiful baby girl whom they proudly named Ethel Mae Nelloms. She was the third born of thirteen children.
In December 1968, she married James Eaglin and from this union they had one child, Dorothea. She later married Philip Jackson and from this union they had one child, Lumizer. Together they raised a blended family of seven children, Anthony Jones, Richard Jackson, Dorothea Eaglin, Mauretta Chantell Blackshear, Lametria Jackson, Kjuanna Jackson and Lumizer Jackson.
At an early age, Ethel accepted Christ and attended Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church on Church Street in Houston, TX, under Rev J. L Johnson. She became a missionary at Greater First Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor E. E. Hamilton.
She was employed by University of Houston Downtown for 23 years as a Records Specialist in Human Resources. She moved to North Carolina, where she worked for two years at Johnson C. Smith University. She later worked at Morehouse School of Medicine and Research. While in Georgia, she received a license to be a Minister. She used her certification to minister to women who were incarcerated. Ethel eventually moved back to Houston, Texas in 2005, where she continued to minister to women in the Harris County Jail.
Ethel is a breast cancer survivor.
She is preceded in death by her parents, father, Ernest Nelloms; mother, Dorothy White Nelloms; brothers, Ollie White, Jr., Willie Lee and Floyd Nelloms; sisters, Martha White, Earnestine, Dorothy Jean, and Betty. Bonus daughter: Mauretta Chantell Blackshear.
Left to cherish precious memories: Sisters: Linda, Georgia (Alvin), Millie (Terry), Ellen (Jeff) and Sabrina. Children: Anthony Jones, Richard Jackson, Dorothea Eaglin (Timothy Hicks), Lametria Jackson, Kjuanna Jackson and Lumizer (Shay Gafford). Grand Children: Marayah, Kaela, Timara, D’Auric, Timothy, III. And Zaniah. One Great Grand Child – Ryleigh Gonzales and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
