Celebrating the Life of Eve Rice Payne Brooks
On December 28, 1951, in St. Louis, Missouri, God blessed Madonna Parker with a
beautiful daughter, Eve Rice. She was raised with love and guidance by her fathers,
John Rice and Fred Parker, both of whom played a vital role in shaping the woman she
became.
Eve was blessed to experience love in marriage twice. She was first united in marriage
to Ervin Payne, and though their union ended, she chose to keep the Payne name
because it was how she was known personally and professionally. Years later, Eve was
joined in marriage to her beloved late husband, Robert Brooks. Their marriage was
described as a fairytale, and she cherished their time together deeply until his passing.
Eve dedicated more than 40 years of service as a surgical technician at Barnes-Jewish
Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She was admired for her skill, compassion, and
mentorship to colleagues, including her close professional relationship with Dr. Soper.
Following retirement, she continued to serve her community by working at Dierbergs in
McKenzie Point, where she was loved by coworkers and customers alike.
Eve loved the simple joys of life. She especially enjoyed going out to eat, shopping, and
traveling, often making these outings opportunities to spend time with those she loved.
She was known for being careful with her money-wise and disciplined in that way-yet
she gave her time freely and always spoke her mind
Eve leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter, Vickie Madonna Rice; her
loving grandchildren: Marcel Rice, Miesha Rice, Mitchell Rice, Carle Rice-Foster,
Jeremiah Price, Jazmon Rice-Johnson, Michael Rice, and Michael Broom Jr.; and her
cherished great-grandchildren: Treston Davis, Marnesha Rice, Michael Broom III,
Mekhai Rice, Marcel Rice Jr., Zoie Foster, Aveyah Dorman, Devon Jr. ("Junie"), Malik
Rice, Messiah Rice, and Miley Broom.
Her siblings who survive her include Frank Rice, Vernon Williams, Carl Parker, Joel
"Pookie" Rice, Andre Rice, Darrell Bankhead, LaDonna Parker, D and Dawn Bankhead,
Kim Rice, Kathy Byron Love, and Wajeedah Rice; along with her sisters-in-law Phyllis
Williams, Tina Parker, Sonia Brooks, and Cassandra Brooks. She also leaves to cherish
her
memory her favorite "crazy" cousin, Phyllis Alcorn, who held a special place in her
heart.
She now joins in eternal rest her sisters, Rhonda "Big Nose" Warren and Leslie "Fatcat"
Cunningham.
She is also remembered by her nieces and nephews: Charmaine Parker, Madonna
Danielle Parker, Vernetta Williams, Zena Williams, Zan'dile Williams, Eileen "Peaches"
Rice, Renyelle Skeet Warren, Vernon Williams Junior, Carl Parker Jr., Alfonso Huntley,
Toots, and many others she held close in her heart. Eve had a special love for "the
babies," especially the twins Xabi Norman, Giovanni Norman, and Baby Aiden, whom
she absolutely adored.
Eve Rice Payne Brooks lived a life full of love, faith, and service. She poured her heart
into her family, her career, her church, and her friendships. She will be remembered as
a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her memory will
forever remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
