Gladys Delores Lewis

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gladys “Delores” Lewis, age 85, who went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 25, 2025, at her home in Rosharon, Texas. She was born on January 21, 1941, in Rome, Georgia, to the late J.C. and Golden Chatman.

Delores, affectionately known as “Nay Nay” by many, was a compassionate and loving woman who devoted her life to caring for others until her final day. Throughout the years, she touched countless lives, often taking people under her wing and opening her home to those experiencing difficult times. She was known for giving selflessly, even when it meant giving her last. Although she had one biological child, Delores was lovingly called “Mom” by many. She often referred to herself as “The Mother of the Mothers,” a title she truly embodied. Her heart was filled with kindness, and she was always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. 

In addition to her parents, Delores was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward L. Lewis, and siblings, Thurman Chatman and Shirley Jordan.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Sonja Williamson; granddaughters Shayna Miles and Shayana Williamson; four great-grandchildren, Terrean, Jonathan, Sameen, and Damani; beloved sister Jaquetta (Nathan) Poole; godson Ray Mauldin; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date for close friends and family.
