Mrs. Rosie Dela Riva Obituary

Rosie Sandoval Dela Riva, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on January 1, 2023. Rosie was born on May 4, 1948 in Houston, Texas, the eighth of eleven children to Juan and Maria Sandoval. She and her siblings were raised in the Second Ward in the shadows of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. In 1967, Rosie married Salvador Dela Riva. After her husband returned from serving in Vietnam, Rosie and Salvador started their family and eventually settled in Missouri City where they were active in the VFW Post 4010.

Rosie was a gifted decorator and florist and was often called upon to provide decorations for weddings, quinceañeras, and other celebrations. One of passions was dancing, as she would do anything to be out on the dance floor. Rosie doted on her children and grandchildren, and attended many dance recitals, swim meets, ballgames, and other events. Family was very important to her, as she loved spending time with her siblings and their families along with other extended family members.

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Felix and Arturo, and sister Carmen. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Salvador Dela Riva, Sr.; daughter Pat Johnson and husband Burton; son Salvador Dela Riva, Jr.; grandchildren Bailee Johnson, Blake Johnson, Christian Gonzalez, Gavin Dela Riva, and Max Dela Riva; and siblings Paul Sandoval and wife Lillian, Hope Govella, Paula Ontiveros, Rachel Gusman and husband Marcello, Lucy Rodriguez, Alice Longoria, and Joe Sandoval; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.

Rosie’s family will greet visitors on Wednesday, January 11 at All Peoples’ Funeral Home at 13035 Hwy 6 in Rosharon, Texas between 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm. The Rosary will be said at 7:30 pm. A funeral mass will be held the following day at 11:00 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 6502 County Road 48 in Manvel, Texas. The funeral mass will be followed by burial at Houston National Cemetery, with a reception to follow.
