“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day – unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved still missed and forever dear!”
Sandra Elaine Isom, daughter of the late Roy Sr. and Lacy Green of Industry, Texas, was born June 29, 1962 in Bellville, Austin County, Texas. She attended Bellville public schools where she graduated from Bellville High School and was a graduate of Blinn College in Brenham, Texas. At an early age, she professed her faith and accepted Jesus Christ, as her Lord and Savior. From there, God’s fervent and faithful servant, she remained. Sandra was a member of Impact Church of The Woodlands.
On December 5, 1992, Sandra entered into the sacred bond of holy matrimony to Willie J. Isom. Though to this union no children were born, there was, however, Robert “Jaye” Helm, Jr. who occupied a treasured space in her heart. Jaye was more like a son than a nephew to Sandra (and Willie alike). Jaye’s farmland is home to many goats and ‘goat kids’, so, aside from Jaye, it seems reasonable to say that Sandra (and Willie) did indeed have ‘kids’.
Sandra had a giving spirit like her Daddy and expected nothing in return when she gave. She had a loving spirit like her Mama where she loved with compassion, and she possessed an angelic spirit like her Big Mama Julie. Sandra truly was our angel! She was genuinely humble, loving, caring and considerate. She never complained and so often put the needs of others above her own. If you were feeling under the weather, she took care of you even if from afar. She would emphasize the importance of water, often saying, “be sure you drink your water.”
Matthew 6:3-4 (NKJV) reads, “but when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly”. THIS describes Sandra. She took joy in being a blessing to others, doing so discreetly and secretly.
As an entrepreneur and businesswoman, when anyone shared an idea or business venture with Sandra, she gracefully encouraged them. She had a way of making you believe you could achieve your goal and make any dream come true. When she was not strategizing or thinking of the next great idea, she enjoyed auctions, collected globes, and loved traveling the world whether in her RV or by other means of transportation. She loved butterflies, flowers, and all things birds (bird houses, feeding, watching, etc.). The next time you see a Cardinal, think of Sandra’s sweet spirit and the impact she left on all of our lives.
On the late afternoon of Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the Texas Medical Center, with “I Can Only Imagine” softly playing in the background, surrounded by her beloved husband and loving family, Sandra peacefully boarded her final flight. As she transitioned from her earthly home to heaven, it was well with our souls because to know Sandra was to love her. Our beautiful, meek, and humble butterfly, flutter your wings and soar! It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later. Sandra taught us to be kind, generous and to find the good in any situation. Her influence will remain in our hearts for eternity.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, Roy Sr. and Lacy Green, her brother Terry Green and in-laws Mr. and Mrs. Willie Isom, Sr. (Vacherie, Louisiana). Her departure leaves loving memories to cherish her devoted husband of 31 years, Willie J. Isom; brother, Rev. Roy Green, Jr. (Joyce) of Industry, Texas; sister, Ola Helm (Robert) of Lake Jackson, Texas; brother, Rodney Green of Industry, Texas; sister, Sherrie Johnson (John) of Hockley, Texas; sister, Christy Shelby (Rick) of Round Top, Texas; sister, Cheryl Minor of Monroe, Louisiana; special friends: Winsome of Miami, Florida (Jamaica); Cornelia of Houston, Texas (Trinidad) and Vincent of Rosharon, Texas (Nigeria); a host of special nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, in-laws, relatives and friends.
“When you were born you were crying and everyone else was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you’re the one smiling and everyone around you is crying.” Though our eyes well, tears fall and hearts ache, we celebrate our dear Sandra: her life, her presence in each of our lives.
