Imagine being blessed with a new year and giving birth to a dazzling chocolate gift. On January 1, 1974, Shalisa (Lisa) Michelle Hunter was born to Sally Hunter at Memorial Hospital. Lisa was the fifth of six siblings born and raised in Houston, Tx. Where she attended and completed her schooling. After graduating, she developed the knowledge of God and was baptized at Southside Church of Christ by the late Ulysses Turner Sr. While at Southside Lisa was involved with the youth group and the Southside chorus until she became ill.
As Lisa got older, she met Rufus Cotton Sr. and gave birth to her own beautiful and loving daughters Portia’ and Runesha Cotton. With this relationship she gained 4 bonus children Tamantha, Maurice (Jr.), Rufus Jr. and Rukeil that loved and cared for as her own. Later in life she found the love of life Jose (Joey) Vasquez and the two married on February 14, 2012.
While being married to Joey, they became God Parents to Joseph (Babe) and Skylar (Sky) where she became known as Momma Lisa and Nana. Bringing the family together with love, positivity, and laughter was an exceptional talent of hers. Her presence reassured us all that it was going to be ok because she was there. No matter the circumstances, she would wake up put on a full face of make up and make the best out of the day. Loved and adored by anyone she met; you’ll leave her presence knowing that you’re not alone. She chose to be happy, kind, and to take care of everyone around her. Cooking wasn’t a specialty, but salad making was a 10/10.
Lisa was a supervisor for Exam One Medical Profiles where she retired after many years of service, but her journey didn’t stop there. After retiring, in 2016 due to a stroke, Shalisa followed her passion in event décor and Stroke of Genius was born. Stroke of Genius was built on her doing what she loved for the people she loved after having the stroke. This goes to show her love for people and specializing in results. No matter where she was or what she was doing if you called her, she was coming. Her business quote was “one call does it all.”
Lisa is survived by her husband Joey; her daughters Portia’ and Runesha; her brother Michael; her sisters Dale, Brenda, Pamela, and Christi; God children Joseph and Skylar; and many nieces and nephews.
