Susie Lee Edwards Washington went home to be with the Lord at 10:15 a.m. on September 11, 2025.
She is survived by her children: Christopher and Lisa Washington; Linda Marie Washington; Stanley and
Gia Washington; her grandchildren, Jasmine Washington and Samuel Washington; a host of nieces and
nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews; and special friends who also are family: Norma Rooks;
Stanley and Loretta Evans.
Susie grew up in Lake Providence, Louisiana, the daughter of Willie and Marie Williams Edwards. She
was the oldest of thirteen siblings: Ozell Edwards (Margaret); Ernestine Edwards; Inell Edwards Lee
(Anderson) (both deceased); Jerry Edwards (deceased); Percy Edwards; Willie (June) Edwards, Jr.
(deceased) (Denzel); Sandra (Faye) Moore (Shelby [deceased]); Alice Edwards Smith; Angie Edwards
Mahoney (Don); Noah Edwards (Etrulya); Ernest Edwards (Linda); Debbie Edwards. She also grew up
with Daisy Green, the younger sister of their mother.
Susie met her future husband, Preston Washington, at East Carroll Parish Training School. They both
graduated in 1954. She moved to New York to live with relatives while Preston served in the army. After
his tour of duty, they married in 1957 and moved to Michigan. Later they moved to Chicago, where they
raised their children in the knowledge of the Lord.
Susie and Preston attended New Hope Baptist Church in Chicago. They made many cherished friends
and served as Sunday School and Bible study leaders.
In 1974, Susie fulfilled a life-long dream by becoming a nurse at Little Company of Mary Hospital. She
worked as a home healthcare nurse until her retirement. In 1991, Preston and she moved to Missouri
City, Texas, to be near Christopher and Lisa. They attended Sugar Creek Baptist Church in Sugarland
where they served for many years.
Preston went before her to heaven on January 29, 2024. Susie took her last breath on September 11,
2025, surrounded by family.
