Mrs. Veronica Baxter - Lamb

Veronica Baxter-Lamb is the second oldest of six children born April 25, 1954 to Mrs. Louise Baxter and the late Mr. Adam Baxter of Chatham County. She became a member of Fairlawn Baptist Church at an early age. 
Veronica attended Robert W. Groves High School in Garden City, Chatham County, GA. She was the first Black Miss Groves High School and the first Black Miss Sweetheart. Veronica was always studious, loved to study and had a great personality. After graduating high school she attended Armstrong State College in 1972 where she earned a BS Degree in Criminal Justice. She became the first Black Miss Armstrong State College and Miss Black American Movement (B.A.M.), the first Black organization on campus. Veronica pledged Gamma Sigma Sigma Sorority at Savannah State University. 
Veronica relocated from Savannah to Houston, Texas and earned her Masters Degree at Texas Southern University (T.S.U.) in Public Administration. 
On September 1, 1981 Veronica started her long and dedicated career with the Houston- Galveston Area Council (H-GAC). She was initially hired as Outreach Coordinator and become Principal Outreach Coordinator. Over 38 years and 11 months of service, she became a respected leader in Regional Transportation, retiring on September4, 2020. She played a key role in launching the Commute Solution Program at H-GAC, promoting Car and Van pooling and other alternatives that helped reduce traffic congestion and improving air quality. She was recognized for her knowledge and dedication and her work was featured in the Houston Chronicle. 
Above all, Veronica was a women of faith and quiet strength. She was an inspiration to many, always encouraging other to value life. Her kindness, leadership and steady presence left a lasting impact on both her community, her co-workers and others who knew her. 
Veronica is a proud member of the Abundant Life Cathedral (ALC) where Pastor Edward Lee "Ed" Montgomery officiates. There, Veronica became a proud Cell Leader/Director of the infamous Women's Ministry "You Women in the Now" (U-WIN) which focused on building relationships, spiritual growth and community for women of all ages. U-Win became Veronica's heart and soul at Abundant Life Cathedral. 
On January 30, 1993 Veronica married her late husband Mr. James Lamb of Kansas City, Missouri. James died in Iraq in 2005. 
Veronica leaves to cherish her loving memories her mother: Mrs. Louise Baxter of Savannah, GA; two sisters: Mrs. Juanita B. Middleton and Cheryl Baxter (Cookie) both of Savannah, GA; two brothers: Mr. Gregory Baxter of Savannah, GA and Pastor Victor Baxter (Gail) of Eastman, GA; nine nieces and nephews: Availe Johnson, Cuanja Middleton, Gabrielle Baxter, Jaylin Baxter, Jacuan Middleton, Cedric Small, Brandon Baxter, Brian Baxter and Lingeela L. Johnson; one Goddaughter: Hanna L. Stanley of Cypress, Texas; five aunts, four uncles, grandnieces and nephews and a host of family and friends. 

A Private Celebration of Life was held in Katy, TX on July 3rd, 2026 with family and close friends.
