Life's Journey
Vivian Marie Young was born to Gussie and Annie Young in Rayne, Louisiana on June 14, 1932. Vivian was the ninth and final child born to the union of Gussie and Annie.
Vivian grew up in Rayne and attended Cunningham CME Methodist Church. Although she lived in Chicago for a brief time as a teenager she returned to Rayne and graduated from Acadia Parish High School.
Shortly after High School Vivian moved to San Antonio, Texas to live with one of her older sisters, while in San Antonio she met and married Edward Cunningham. To this union Vivian's first child Bernice was born. Vivian also accompanied Edward while he served in the United States Air Force in England.
On December 15, 1957, Vivian married Joseph Arceneaux, Jr. to this union three children were born, Gus, Daniel and Karen. Vivian and Joseph "Billy" were married until Joseph's death in September 1971.
Vivian lived in Houston from 1963 until her death. Vivian worked as a homemaker she was always striving to be the best mother and wife possible. She also worked outside of the home in various positions. Vivian always gave 100% to whatever she did, and she was also always well respected by the people she worked for and with.
After Billy's death Vivian continued to raise her family as a single parent. She worked very hard sometimes working two jobs to provide for her children. In 1973 Vivian purchased her home at 5215 Fairgreen Lane. Vivian was always generous to a fault with a heart as big as the sky. Vivian opened her home to many throughout the years. She was always happy to provide a home for family members and friends.
Vivian was both a good cook and an excellent baker. Throughout the years she gained a reputation for her excellent baked goods. It wasn't long before orders were coming in on a regular basis for cakes, cookies, tea cakes and more. Vivian loved baking it was a true passion.
Vivian loved to acknowledge that she was a child of God. God was first in her life and then family. Vivian loved to travel and never missed a family reunion. Vivian was a charter member of Gracepoint Christian Center and remained an extremely active member until becoming ill.
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband Joseph "Billy" Arceneaux, her parents, Gussie and Annie Young; her siblings, Willie Mae, Whitney Gus, Carrie, Mary Lee, Travis; baby son Gus, granddaughter Rebecca. Vivian is survived by two beloved sisters; Josephine Hoyle (Chicago) and Annie Vorron Robinson (Houston), her children Bernice Watson; Daniel Arceneaux and his wife Annica "Ann", and daughter, Karen Arceneaux-Griffin; and two "bonus" daughters, Tassie Semien, Kimberly Semien-Denson. She also leaves to cherish her loving memory three grandchildren; Annica and Adrianne Arceneaux, Eric Watson and one great grandson Jermiah Weatherspoon and a host of nieces, great nieces, great-great nieces, nephews, great-great nephews, cousins and friends.
