Anissa E. Kirkling was born into the union of Charles and Janine Kirkling on December 30, 1968, in Houston, Texas. She was the eldest of five siblings. Faith and belief in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, were instilled in her at an early age.
Anissa graduated from Ross S. Sterling High School in Houston, Texas. She went on to attend Prairie View A&M University's College of Nursing, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1992, and completed her graduate studies at Loyola University - New Orleans, where she earned a Master of Science in Nursing in 2013.
Anissa started her nursing career at Ben Taub Hospital in the Texas Medical Center, working on a medical-surgical unit. As her career developed, she found her passion working with veterans at the Michael E. DeBakey Veteran Affairs Medical Center for over 20 years. In her most recent and cherished position, she served as a Cardiothoracic RN Coordinator, working with patients suffering from illnesses affecting the chest cavity. She adored her patients and took pride in providing them with steadfast service and loving care.
Anissa, who was affectionately known as "Nissa," enjoyed traveling the globe and spending time with her loved ones. Her smile and laugh were infectious. Her legacy of service and her selflessly giving heart will continue to live on through her family and the many lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Kirkling; and her grandparents, Carrie Johnson, Percy Greer, Mattie Kirkling-Grant, and Charlie Kirkling.
In her passing, she leaves to cherish her memory: her mother, Janine Kirkling; her siblings, Teri Williams, Tina Kirkling, Charles Kirkling Jr., Chelsea Kirkling, and Geoffrey Kirkling; her stepmother, Twanna Kirkling; her aunt and godmother, Carrie Thompson; her beloved cousins, Jackie Bryant (Troi) and Corey Thompson (Darlene); as well as a host of relatives and friends.
