Vivian Jo Freeman, was a beloved mother, grandmother, and strong foundation of her family. She passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026 in Fresno, Texas.
She was born on September 19, 1937 in Monroe, Louisiana, to her parents Felix Freeman and Paralee Davis Freeman, both of whom proceeded her in death. Vivian was one of 13 siblings and the last surviving siblings carrying the legacy of her family with strength and pride. Vivian was a proud mother of two children, Diane Freeman (Markham, IL) and Clarence Sr./Irene Freeman (Chicago, IL). She was a loving grandmother of 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, in which one proceeded her in death. She had a host of nieces, nephews, and other loved ones who she loved dearly. Her family was her greatest joy, and she cherished every moment spent surrounded by them.
She attended Rhymes Elementary School and continued her education through high school. Vivian played basketball in high school and was featured in the newspaper, something she was proud of, building the foundation for the determined woman she became.
Vivian gave her life to Christ at a young age. She attended Bel Aire Park Church in Markham, IL and served diligently on the usher ministry. She moved to Fresno, Texas in 2005 and shortly after moving, she joined New St. Phillip Missionary Baptist Church where she continued to serve on the usher ministry until the time of her death. She always spoke so highly of her pastor and the entire New St. Phillip church family.
She was known for her hard-working spirit, working multiple jobs, sometimes three or four at a time, to provide and build a better life for her family. She believed strongly in generational wealth and leaving something meaningful behind for those she loved.
Vivian had a vibrant personality. She was funny, loving, and full of life, but she was also a woman who stood her ground. When she spoke, you listened. She carried strength, discipline, and wisdom that shaped generations. She loved helping others and spent much of her time giving back, including regularly going to the food pantry. Her heart for people and her willingness to serve will never be forgotten.
Vivian loved being around family, creating memories, and bringing people together. Her favorite color was purple, a reflection of the royalty and strength she carried throughout her life. She spent her final days in her home in Fresno, Texas, surrounded by the love she gave so freely to others.
Vivian Jo Freeman leaves behind a powerful legacy of strength, love, hard work, and family unity. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love will continue to guide her family for generations to come.
