“… Well done, thou good and faithful servant; …enter thou into the joy of the Lord.”
Matthew 25:23
On Saturday September 23, 2023, God in His infinite wisdom called home, from labor to reward, a faithful servant – Pastor Raynard H. Hillis.
Pastor Raynard H. Hillis was the second of two sons born to the late R.H. Hillis and Jannie Elizabeth Parker-Hillis on August 5, 1966, in San Francisco, California. Pastor Hillis was educated in the Houston Independent School District and graduated from the historical Booker T. Washington High School in 1984. Pastor Hillis accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized under the leadership of his grandfather, the late S. B. Parker who pastored the Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church. While under the leadership of his grandfather, Pastor Hillis heard and answered the call to the ministry of preaching at the tender age of nine (9) years old, thus beginning a life-long journey of preparation, leadership, service, and care.
Pastor Hillis has been the faithful Pastor of the historical Double Rock Baptist Church of San Francisco, CA for the past nine and a half (9 ½) years and was only the second pastor of this historical church that was founded by Dr. Victor Meaderis. Pastor Hillis’ preaching style and insightful teaching have been an inspiration to many. His leadership and service to the Double Rock family, the greater Christian and local community was extensive. Pastor Hillis served as the Moderator of the Home and Foreign Mission District Association and Co-Chair of the San Francisco African American Faith Based Coalition, that provided food and public health out-reach services to the Bay View Community of San Francisco.
Pastor Hillis leaves to morn his faithful and loving wife of five and a half (5 ½) years; Mary Ann Finley Hillis, who was with him as he exited this life bound for eternity. “Sister Mary” dutifully cared for and loved Pastor Hillis and is much loved and appreciated by the entire Hillis family for all that she provided for Pastor Hillis.
Pastor Hillis was an excellent father and family man who was previously married to Debra E. Miller Hillis, to this union a son was born; Raynard H. Hillis II. He later married Darlene L. Rigsby Hillis, to this union three children were born: Faith Alyce Hillis, Christian Elizabeth Hillis, and Randon H. Hillis. Pastor Hillis as a loving father passed on his wit, special humor, and giftedness to his children.
In preparation of life-long ministry Pastor Hillis attended the Union Bible Seminary (Houston, TX), Bishop College (Dallas, TX) and California Baptist University (Los Angeles, CA). Pastor Hillis also faithfully pastored the Loyal Missionary Baptist Church of Houston, TX., Raising Star Missionary Baptist Church and Friendly Will Missionary Baptist Church both of Austin, TX.
Pastor Hillis is proceeded in death by his parents: R.H. Hillis and Jannie E. Parker Hillis and his son Randon H. Hillis all of Houston, Texas.
Mourning his departure are his loving and dutiful wife; Mary Ann Finley Hillis, his son Raynard H. Hillis II; daughters Faith A. Hillis, Christian E. Hillis and Candice L. Lang; brother Raymond H. Hillis (KyJunta); sister Audrie Rubin; nephew Ryan H. Hillis; nieces Kelsey M. Hillis and Nicole Sparks; and a host of aunts and uncles, cousins, friends and acquaintances.
